Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN YOUNG & CO.," Harrisburg, PA, circa 1856-1858, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a tall brushed design of a tulip plant with exceptionally large blossoms and protruding stamens. Cobalt accents to maker's mark and capacity mark. Cobalt highlight to lower handle terminal. Excellent maker, decoration, and color. Provenance: Recently surfaced in PA. Excellent condition with the following minor flaws: a faint 2 1/2" line to shoulder, an in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder on left side, some in-the-firing fissures at upper handle terminal, a small base chip, and minor staining. H 15".
