Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock with Lid, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, cylindrical crock with squared rim and extruded lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with brushed swags over a slip-coated ground. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Includes original swag-decorated lid with cobalt-highlighted knob. Both crock and lid impressed with John Bell maker's mark. A large network of cracks around body, extending onto underside, and a small rim chip. Lid with significant chips to edge, a large chip to knob, wear to top of knob, and chips to flange on underside. H (including lid) 7 3/4" ; Diam. 9 3/8".
