Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "SOLOMON BELL / STRASBURG / Va," circa 1850-1880, ovoid pitcher with tooled rim and footed base, decorated with a brushed swag-and-hanging tulip motif on the front and sides of the collar. Stripe decoration to handle and cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed on reverse shoulder with Solomon Bell maker's mark. A seldom-seen form by one of the Southern United States' most revered potters. Several small rim and spout chips. Two minor nicks to foot. H 10 1/4".
