Unusual One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Strasburg, VA origin, circa 1880, ovoid pitcher with footed base and flaring, tooled collar, decorated with a brushed design of a flowering plant resembling a bluebell. Cobalt spots flanking the spout and a wavy cobalt stripe at the rim. Dark-colored, salt-glazed exterior. The pitcher's unglazed interior reveals it is composed of an orange, iron-rich clay. Possibly an experimental piece. Excellent condition with some minor flaking to underside. H 10 1/2".
