Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J.H. DIPPLE / LEWISTOWN," PA origin, late 19th century, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and flaring spout, decorated with a large brushed design of a flower blossom flanked by diagonal flourishes. Includes wooden stopper. Essentially as-made condition with some staining and firing flaws, including a salt drip to shoulder, a small surface chip to left side of jug's front, and a large piece of adhered clay near base on jug's right side. Additionally, a minor, 1 3/4" vertical line at base on reverse. H 15 3/4".
