Rare Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware "Weeping Eye" Face Jug, Stamped "B.B. CRAIG / VALE, N.C.," early fourth quarter 20th century, highly-ovoid jug with flared spout, two applied handles, and incised sine-wave decoration to shoulder, the front decorated with a hand-modeled and applied clay face including broken china teeth and desirable "weeping" eyes with bold, white-colored runs. Surface covered in a dark-olive alkaline glaze. Underside impressed with Burlon B. Craig maker's mark. The "crying eye" treatment is scarce in Craig's face jugs and this example is the first that we have offered. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 15 3/4".
