Fine Diminutive Slip-Decorated Redware Dish, Eastern U.S., possibly NC origin, 19th century, delicately-potted dish with footed base and semi-rounded rim molding, decorated in manganese slip with a central daisy blossom and stripes along the outer edge, all under a clear lead glaze. The shallow form of this dish and its stylized daisy motif relate this work to pieces made by Alamance County potter, Solomon Loy, and his predecessors; however, no dish of this specific combination of form, size, and decoration, has been documented in this potting school's body of work, and the color of its clay, which includes iron flecking, is more indicative of pieces made elsewhere in the country. A boldly-decorated work of exceptional size. Shallow rim chips. A stacker mark to rim. A minuscule nick to foot. H 1/2" ; Diam. 4 11/16".
