Extremely Rare Glazed Earthenware Squirrel Bottle, probably NC origin, late 19th or early 20th century, wheel-thrown bottle with bulbous spout molding, the surface decorated with hand-modeled and applied figural elements of a feeding squirrel. Incised details to tail. Pierced eyes. Clear-glazed surface decorated with manganese over a mottled yellow and olive ground. Exceptional form. Excellent condition with a small chip to one ear, old black paint to tips of ears, a minor black-painted base chip, and a very minor in-the-firing base chip. H 7".
