Rare One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Bowl, Stenciled "James Hamilton & Co.," Greensboro, PA, circa 1870, semi-ovoid bowl with tall, heavily-tooled rim molding, featuring the stenciled maker's mark, "James Hamilton & Co.," above a wavy freehand stripe and large undulating vine. Two additional freehand stripes above. A rarely-seen Western PA form, featuring elaborate use of freehand and stenciled cobalt. Provenance: Recently surfaced in New York State. Hairlines to underside, one of which continues 1" onto base. Minor roughness to bottom edge. Some staining to surface. A small chip to interior of rim. H 5 5/8" ; Diam. 8 3/4".
