Six-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Eagle Motif, Stenciled "LION POTTERY," Alexander Conrad, New Geneva, PA, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a stenciled design of a flying eagle holding a banner, inscribed "Lion Pottery." Stenciled rose motif above. Stenciled "6" flanked by stenciled flowers at base. Freehand stripe below rim. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Spider crack on underside, including a crack extending 9 3/4" up front. Area of surface wear to right of "6." Minor surface wear to reverse. Light staining to shoulder on reverse. H 16 3/4".
