Anna Pottery Salt-Glazed Stoneware "Railroad and River Guide" Pig Flask with Incised Map, Signed and Dated "By Anna Pottery / 1884," Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, 1884, molded flask in the form of a reclining pig with hole at rear, incised details to face and hooves, and anatomically-correct underside. Incised on one side with the cobalt-highlighted inscription, "Latest and Only Reliable / Railroad and River Guide / By Anna Pottery / 1884." Remainder of pig incised with a railroad map of the Midwestern United States including the following landmarks: St. Louis the future Great in, Bloomington, Springfield, alton, O & m. R.R., Miss. River, Chester, Grandtower, Pullman, Kankakee, Gillman, Champagn, Tolono, mattoon, Effingham, Odin, Centralia, Tamaroa, DuQuoin, Carbondale, Anna, Tunnel Hill, mounds, St. L & P, Vincennes, Dubuque, Cincinnati the Pork City, and Chicago the corn city. Excellent color and crisp incising, featuring Anna Pottery's best penmanship with elongated flourishes. As-made condition with a 1 1/8" in-the-firing adhesion to haunch, two salt drips, and typical small in-the-firing contact marks to bottoms of legs. L 7 1/4".
