Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Watch Spring Decoration, probably American, 18th century, ovoid jug with tall, banded spout, decorated with a series of three brushed watch spring motifs around the body. Brushed cobalt highlights to banding. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. This jug features classic watch spring motifs in the early American style and includes surface anomalies characteristic of American stoneware. The spout, however, is consistent with German stoneware. A 3/4" spout chip and small in-the-firing spout chip below. A small base chip on reverse. Minor crazing to base. An in-the-firing surface chip near base on reverse. H 13 1/2".
