Outstanding One-Gallon Vertical-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, third quarter 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and ribbed vertical handles, decorated on one side with a stylized, four-petaled flower blossom and on the reverse with a scalloped foliate or floral motif. Elaborate scalloped decoration to base of handles along with cobalt highlights to the handle terminals. Desirable form with exceptional color. Excellent condition with a small chip to top of rim, minor base nicks, and some light surface crazing, typical of pieces of this age and origin. H 10".
