Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Coggled Bird-and-Leaf Motif, attributed to Branch Green, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1820, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a coggled design of a bird holding a leaf in its beak, brushed over with a band of cobalt. Unusually large size for this form. Two tight networks of cracks to one side. Tight lines to midsection on opposite side. A small base chip. Remnants of wax to surface. H 15 1/2".
