Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1865, cylindrical jar with squared rim, applied lug handles, and tooled accents to upper half, decorated with an undulating, flowering vine to shoulder below two dashes. Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder, midsection, and base. Bottom half of jar decorated with a horizontal tulip motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 1 1/4" chip to front of rim. A small chip to one handle. A tiny nick to opposite handle. Minor in-the-firing chipping to base. H 15 3/4".
