Fine Eight-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "Hamilton & Jones / Greensboro, PA," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with elaborate freehand fuchsia vines and stripes above Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling, flanked by graduated horizontal stripes. Further decorated below with a freehand "8" surrounded by spots and additional freehand stripes to base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Includes wooden lid. Very nice condition with some bubbling to cobalt, a 1 1/8" glazed-over ping at base, and minor surface wear. H 19 3/4".
