Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "W.A. MACQUOID & CO. / POTTERY WORKS. / LITTLE W. 12TH ST. / NEW YORK.," circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed floral motif featuring two drooping blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. This jar exhibits stronger cobalt than is typically found on this pottery's work. A minor chip to one handle. Minor water glass staining to exterior. Water glass staining to interior. A 1 1/4" surface line from rim on exterior front of jar, not visible on interior. A minor chip to one handle. Some small spots of bubbling and minor wear to cobalt. H 11".
