Rare Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "J. EATON," South River, NJ, circa 1850, wide, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with large crossed leaves flanking a Roman numeral "III." Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Reverse decorated with a series of small brushed slashes around the shoulder. Excellent condition with a 1 3/4" surface line to interior of rim, some light staining to surface, and some minor glaze residue to shoulder area. H 11 1/2" ; Diam. (at rim) 10 1/4".
