Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Bird Decoration, probably NJ origin, circa 1815, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder, footed base, and heavily-tooled spout with squared mouth. Reverse with ribbed, early-style handle that terminates into the body of the vessel, Shoulder decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a long-necked bird perched on a foliate motif. Heavy incised detail throughout bird including delicate vine-like design to the bird's neck, situated between two rings. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. In-the-firing flaws to surface, including contact marks and a recessed chip. Base chips. A shallow 1/2" chip to side of spout and a minor chip to top of spout. H 15 1/2".
