Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Double Bird Decoration, Stamped "HAXSTUN, OTTMAN & CO. / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of crossed bird perched in the crook of a tree. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. An in-the-firing iron ping to front. Exfoliation to reverse of jar, extending onto right side. Right handle with two large chips and a few thin cracks. Chips and wear to interior of rim. A 2 1/4" line on underside, extending 3" up reverse. H 11 1/4".
