Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Pheasant-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested pheasant with turned head, perched on a tree stump. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Professional restoration to spout. Restoration to a 3" x 1 1/4" area at base on reverse. H 16".
