One-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON, / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Desirable size for this form. A thin 2 3/4" crack from rim to right of maker's mark. A small in-the-firing iron ping near base on front. Two minuscule nicks to one handle. H 7 3/8" ; Diam. 8 1/8".
