Fine Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "Hamilton & Jones. / Greensboro. / Greene Co Pa," circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, decorated with freehand vining above Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling, including three stenciled stars. Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Base with stenciled "2" flanked by stenciled star-shaped foliate devices. Good condition. Left side of jar with a 1/2" in-the-firing surface chip, including some surface dryness. Some light bubbling to cobalt. A few old paint spots to underside, unrelated to any sort of restoration. H 12".
