Scarce Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Water Cooler, Stenciled "T.F. REPPERT. / SUCCESSOR / TO / JAS. HAMILTON & CO. / GREENSBORO. / PA.," circa 1880 semi-ovoid cooler with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, semi-rounded rim, and squared bunghole, featuring desirable "T.F. REPPERT / SUCCESSOR TO. . ." stenciling, flanked by stenciled tulip motifs. Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Base inscribed with a freehand "4," flanked by flourishes. Cobalt highlights to the bunghole and handle terminals. Provenance: Recently surfaced in the Southeastern U.S. A 1 1/4" in-the-firing loss to rear end of left handle. Remnants of old green paint to surface. Two small salt drips to surface, a small glazed-over dent to front of spout, and a small glazed-over ping to front. H 15".
