Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Eagle Decoration, Stenciled "T.F. REPPERT. / EAGLE POTTERY. / GREENSBORO, PA," circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a stenciled design of a spread-winged Federal eagle with shield, clutching arrows in both talons, surrounded by T.F. Reppert maker's stenciling. Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Base with freehand "4" flanked by flourishes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Some fry to cobalt. Staining to surface. A small chip to interior of rim. Two vertical lines at base on reverse, measuring 4 1/4" and 2 1/4". A 2" line on underside, continuing 2 1/4" up base on reverse. A tiny chip to underside of rim on reverse. H 14 1/4".
