Extremely Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "O.S. GIFFORD / WATERTOWN. N.Y," mid 19th century, low-sided, cylindrical form with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated on the front with an artistic slip-trailed design of sinuous flowering vines. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Rare maker, form, and size, featuring excellent decoration and color. A small chip to interior of rim. A large in-the-firing chip to rear end of right handle. A few in-the-firing contact marks to reverse. H 4 3/4" ; Diam. 14 1/4".
