Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Rabbit Decoration, Stamped "JULIUS NORTON, / BENNINGTON, VT.," circa 1841-1844, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed design of a leaping rabbit. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. An approximately 6" inverted Y-shaped crack from rim on reverse. A top-to-bottom crack from rim on front, extending onto underside. Two in-the-firing iron pings to interior. Chips to left ear. Wear to rim. Staining to surface. H 10 1/2".
