Lidded Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Thomas Haig, Jr. or Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1870, cylindrical crock with heavily-tooled shoulder, squared rim, and ribbed lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with two large tulip motifs. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and a line of cobalt running below each handle. Paired with a fitting swag-decorated lid of probable Baltimore origin. Crock with tight spider crack descending from rim around one handle and a short distance onto underside. A thin 3 1/2" crack from rim. A 1 3/4" chip to interior of rim. A small chip to exterior of rim. Lid with two large and a few minor chips, a line across top, and a short line from edge. H (of crock) 6" ; Diam. (of crock) 10 1/8".
