One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, handle at base on reverse, and wood-and-wire bail handle, decorated with opposing graduated floral motifs on the front and a flower blossom surrounding the base of the spout. Reverse decorated with an additional graduated floral motif. Cobalt highlights to applied ears. Includes tin lid. Numerous tiny chips around exterior of rim. A 1/2" line and minor chip to spout. A 3/4" flake to interior of rim, which is partially covered by a small reglued flake. A 2 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse. A tiny chip and nick to handle at base on reverse. A 1" flake to underside at edge and minor base nicks.H (excluding lid) 10".
