Unusual Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J.W. COWDEN / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1861, ovoid jug with tapered spout, decorated with a large brushed design of a flowering plant featuring tulips flanking a star-shaped blossom. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Excellent condition with some light staining and a faint 1" surface line at base on right side of jug. H 17".
