Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "W. ROBERTS. BINGHAMTON. N Y," circa 1870, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with well-detailed body, perched on a flowering stem. Cobalt accents to maker's mark and handle terminals. Some fry to cobalt. A chip and minor nick to left handle. A T-shaped hairline to underside, continuing 1" up front of jar. H 9 7/8".
