Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Paddletail Bird Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & SON. / UTICA, N.Y.," circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of crested bird with paddle-shaped tail, perched on a flowering vine. Light cobalt accents to maker's mark and capacity mark. Excellent condition with a minor scratch to midsection, minor staining to exterior, and some water glass staining to interior. This condition is somewhat unusual for this maker and design. H 12 1/2".
