Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Incised "II," attributed to Dave at Lewis Miles's Stoney Bluff Manufactory, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1860, semi-ovoid jar with deeply-tooled shoulder, flared rim, and arched lug handles, the surface covered in a mottled dark-brown alkaline glaze. Shoulder incised with two slash marks. Fingerprints visible at base. Jar includes later cold-painted floral decoration. Provenance: A South Carolina private collection. A 2 1/8" x 7/8" reglued section at rim, which also includes a 1 3/4" shallow surface chip to facade of rim. An additional 1 7/8" surface chip to facade of rim. H 11 3/4".
