One-Gallon Slip-Decorated Stoneware Jug with Impressed Eagle-on-Cannon Motif, Stamped "CHARLESTOWN," Frederick Carpenter, Charlestown, MA, circa 1812-1827, ovoid jug with footed base, tooled shoulder, and semi-squared spout, the shoulder decorated with an impressed design of a spread-winged eagle perched on a cannon. Surface covered in a clear salt glaze with dipped Albany slip decoration to spout and base. An in-the-firing contact mark involving a surface chip to front. Base chips. In-the-firing surface crazing. H 12 1/2".
