Small-Sized Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug, Incised "X," probably Dave, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, squat-shaped jug with heavily-tooled shoulder and rounded spout, the surface covered in a green to dark-brown alkaline glaze. Incised "X" at shoulder, a late-period Dave trait. Provenance: A South Carolina private collection. A 3" Y-shaped line from base on side of jug. Some spout restoration. A 4 1/4" horizontal hairline to shoulder on front, extending through a 3/4" x 3/8" restored spot. Handle with a restored crack to each end, indicating it was likely reglued. H 8 3/8".
