Two Pieces of Western PA Stoneware, circa 1875, a one-gallon jar with small star and tulip stencils, stenciled "H.F. BEHREN. / GROCER, / 2217 & 2219 / MARKET STREET / WHEELING, W. VA.;" with a cylindrical crock, stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES, / AGTS, / GREENSBORO, / PA." Provenance: From a fifty-year private collection. Behren jar with a small rim chip, shallow chipping to shoulder molding, and a small chip to underside at edge. Hamilton & Jones crock with in-the-firing blistering throughout. H (of Behrens) 9 7/8".
