Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "EXCELSIOR WORKS / Isaac Hewitt, Jr. / RICES LANDING, PA.," circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, decorated with elaborate freehand brushwork, including a script "2," to the top of the jar, and stenciled with an Isaac Hewitt, Jr. maker's mark to the bottom half. Provenance: From a fifty-year private collection. Restoration to areas of rim and restoration to a crack(?) to left of decoration. H 11 3/4".
