Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Allegheny City, PA Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, ovoid jar with flattened rim, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising, "HENRY LENZ / DEALER IN / FINE GROCERIES. / 187 SPRING GARDEN / AVE. / ALLEGHENY CITY. / PA." Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Base with freehand "2" flanked by flourishes. A 1 3/8" in-the-firing contact mark to front, which involves some surface chipping. A small in-the-firing ping to shoulder, which is glazed over. Minor surface wear. H 9 3/4".
