Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Vine Decoration, Stamped "HAMILTON / & CO. / Greensboro / PA," circa 1860, semi-ovoid jar with tooling to midsection and shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with an undulating vine bearing graduated swags. The maker's mark includes unusual cobalt highlighting only to the name, "HAMILTON." The "4" in the capacity mark is brushed over with cobalt as well, as are the handle terminals. Excellent condition with a minor chip to one handle, very minor surface wear, and some light staining. H 14 1/2".
