Stoneware Canning Jar with Cobalt Shield and Stars Decoration, Stenciled "J. HAMILTON / & CO. / GREENSBORO. PA.," circa 1875, tapered jar with "wax sealer" rim, the front decorated with a star-spangled shield with banner bearing the name of the maker, "J. HAMILTON," flanked by daisies. Provenance: From a fifty-year private collection. Small chips to inner rim for lid. A tiny nick to interior of rim. Some very faint and minor in-the-firing lines to underside. Minor surface wear. H 9 3/8",
