Rare Stoneware Butter Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "MOORE, NICHOLS & CO. / WILLIAMSPORT, PA," circa 1877-1879, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, with a brushed floral motif featuring spots on the interior of the petals. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. A 3 1/4" crack from rim on reverse. A 2" in the firing chip to rim on reverse, part of which is glazed over. A small chip on interior of rim. Two in-the-firing surface fissures on underside, not visible on interior. A glazed-over Y-shaped surface line to interior. H 5 1/2" ; Diam. 9 7/8".
