Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "NORTON & FENTON, / East Bennington, Vt," circa 1845, ovoid pitcher with tall flaring collar and squared rim molding, decorated with a stylized fan-shaped floral motif. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. The first stoneware pitcher bearing this mark that we have offered. A filled 7/8" flake to front of spout. A 2" in-the-firing contact mark to reverse. A short crack to base area, which appears to be in-the-firing. Some grease residue to surface. H 12 3/4".
