Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO. / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed floral spray accented with dotted trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Three small chips to one handle. A small chip to opposite handle. A 6" cross-shaped line under opposite handle. Some light exfoliation to underside. A tiny nick to interior of rim along with chips and wear to inner rim for lid. A small base chip. Reverse with a slightly-recessed area including two minor in-the-firing contact marks. A small chip and minor nick to molding below rim. H 13".
