Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER / NEW-YORK," circa 1820, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with brushed cobalt banding to the shoulder on the front and reverse. Cobalt stripe decoration to surfaces of handles. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, consigned by a Crolius descendant. Significant cracks around base, extending up body of jar. Drilled hole in underside. A few rim chips. A small contact mark with piece of adhered clay to front and a small salt drip to reverse.
