Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Decoration, attributed to John Remmey III, Manhattan, NY, circa 1805, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, decorated with an incised and purplish-slip-highlighted foliate motif. The slip used to decorated this jar is likely a combination of cobalt and manganese. Color of jar and style of incising indicate John Remmey III as the maker. A 3/4" flake to exterior of rim. A 2 1/4" flake to underside at edge and light exfoliation to underside. Some in-the-firing crazing to surface, not visible on interior. H 7 7/8".
