Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "A .KEISTER & .CO / STRASBURG .VA.," circa 1850, ovoid pitcher with heavily-tooled collar, decorated with a horizontal design of two opposing Germanic tulips. Foliate brushwork over maker's mark. Additional foliate brushwork to the spout and flanking the spout. Desirable maker, form, and size. Restoration to the left and right sides of the pitcher's body, including some restoration extending onto front involving small spots of the decorations. Additional unrestored, light exfoliation to front. A firing crack extending partway through lower handle terminal. Rim and base chips. H 13 3/4".
