Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "S D. KELLOGG . / WHATELY," MA origin, circa 1851-1853, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a scroll-leafed plant flanked by two smaller plants, all emanating from a stylized ground. Bullet or BB hole to front and reverse. Fry to cobalt. A small in-the-firing contact mark to front. Two small base chips. A few minor chips to base area.
