Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Rabbit Decoration, Stamped "JULIUS NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT.," circa 1841-1844, semi-ovoid jug with squared spout, decorated with a brushed design of a leaping rabbit above crossed flowers with long, scrolled stamens. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: A recently-surfaced example. Three spout chips, the largest on reverse, measuring 1/2" long. A 2 1/8" in-the-firing contact mark to left side of jug. A minor surface chip to right side of jug.
