Very Rare One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Incised "J. Fowler / Vanport, Pa / Nov 22," circa 1870, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, decorated with a brushed foliate motif over a slip-coated ground. Underside incised "J. Fowler / Vanport, Pa / Nov 22." The year of the date appears to be obscured by residue from the firing. Various restorations, including restoration to a 6" x 4 3/4" reglued section at rim.
