Scarce Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock with Stenciled Grapevine Motif, Palatine, WV origin, circa 1875, cylindrical form with flared base, tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring a symmetrical stenciled grapevine motif above a stenciled "2" with flourishes. Provenance: From a fifty-year collection. A large Y-shaped crack to underside, connecting a smaller Y-shaped crack below right handle. A tight 4" line from rim on reverse. A minor glazed-over chip to right handle. Faint traces of old paint residue to surface.
